From Struggle to Success: Samiyah’s Journey

Every morning, second -grader Samiyah eagerly waits to be picked up for her RISE tutoring session. Her enthusiasm is contagious, but her journey hasn’t been easy. Starting the year significantly below grade level, Samiyah faced challenges in both reading and writing.

Thanks to the dedication of her RISE tutor, her hard work has paid off. Right before Thanksgiving  Break, her teacher proudly shared Samiyah’s latest writing assignment: three beautifully written sentences about a snowman. The improvement was remarkable—not just in her handwriting and spelling but in her confidence. For the first time, Samiyah’s work was displayed in the school hallway, a moment of pride she will never forget.

Samiyah’s story is just one example of the transformative power of RISE programs. Last year, 85% of students in our tutoring program improved their reading level, and 93% saw overall academic improvement. These achievements aren’t possible without the support of our incredible donors and volunteers.
