A Literacy Champion: Karen Bussey
We are thrilled to shine a spotlight on Karen Bussey, our Site Coordinator for the RISE Augusta Literacy Tutoring Program at Hornsby Elementary School. Karen’s commitment to student success and her passion for education are nothing short of inspiring.
In her role, Karen wears many hats. She supervises a team of four dedicated tutors, ensures a thriving learning environment, and provides one-on-one and small group reading instruction emphasizing multisensory phonics. Her meticulous tracking of student progress and guidance for her tutors play a critical role in meeting the individual needs of every student in the program.
Karen also collaborates closely with Hornsby Elementary School’s administrative team, always looking for ways to support school events and initiatives.
A retired educator with 31 years of service in Richmond County, Karen holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from South Carolina State University and a master’s degree in Instructional Technology from Troy State University.
