Rebuilding a Foundation That Was Shaken

At RISE Augusta, we believe every child holds extraordinary potential—sometimes they just need a helping hand. Whether meeting basic needs, delivering early literacy programs, or equipping teens with real-world skills, we invest in students before they become another statistic. Our goal - brighter futures!

What the Research Says

Reading is “the thread that ties learning together,” supporting success in every subject from math to science. (Concordia University–Nebraska)

Parent Tip

Celebrate small wins!  A finished page, a tricky word sounded out, or a new book attempted—praise the effort, not just the accuracy.

Marie’s Story — Turning Discouragement into Determination

At the start of the year, third-grader Marie felt frustrated and embarrassed. Ending sounds confused her. Diagrams overwhelmed her. Sometimes she simply shut down and put her head down on her desk.

Her tutor gently pressed reset—returning to the very basics of literacy and rebuilding her confidence step by step. With patience, encouragement, and targeted practice, Marie began to see how much she did know and where her gaps could be filled.

Little by little, the pieces clicked. All she needed was a fresh start and someone who believed she could master reading. Today, reading feels “easy” and Marie knows that determination and practice are helping her become the student she wants to be.
