HUB Camp
Pictured Above: Dr. Ebony Whisenant, Harrisburg Family Health Services teaching the children all about first aid on ground level – at this particular time she was showing them how to appropriately apply band-aids (kids 6-7 years old!)
Thank You for An Incredible Camp Experience!
RISE Augusta has many wonderful partners like Augusta University’s Literacy Center, Augusta Locally Grown, and Harrisburg Family Health Center, but the Jessye Norman School of the Arts has pulled out all of the stops this year!
Thanks to Jessye Norman's talented team of artists, three FREE Fine Arts Camps were provided in June at the HUB for community children. I don’t know who had a better time – the kids or all the adults involved!
In addition to drama, the children had a class in basic first aid and also learned how to make their own healthy lunches – sandwich wraps and yogurt parfaits compliments of Augusta Locally Grown.
Amazing time at the HUB this summer for budding thespians!
Led by our fabulous friends from the Jessye Norman School of the Arts, all HUB West partners (RISE Augusta, AU Literacy Center, Harrisburg Family Health Services, and Augusta Locally Grown) joined forces to host our first-ever summer camp.
Thirty-three children, ages 6-12 years of age participated this year. It was a treat to watch the kids start the week a bit shy and tentative and then watch as they built friendships and got so excited about performing “Master Davey and the Magic Tea House” by Susan Chodakiewitz and David De Candia...
Big shout out to Dr. Ebony Whisenant who taught the students basic first aid and Diane Kerekanich for teaching the kids how to make lunch on their own. The Augusta Richmond County Library also brought out their bookmobile so that kids had plenty of books to read!
We can’t wait until next year!
